With Anamon, Royal Botania casts new light on the concept of the parasol. By day, it is a design that blooms open like a flower, offering shade. By night, it transforms into a minimalist piece that illuminates the darkness. Kris Van Puyvelde once again surprises with a masterful blend of engineering, elegance, and user-friendliness—now rightfully crowned with two Red Dot Design Awards.
The shape of Anamon finds its counterpart beneath the ocean’s surface, deep in nature. The parasol unfolds from within, much like a sea anemone gracefully unfurling. This natural movement first inspired Kris Van Puyvelde about ten years ago, when he was diving beneath the ocean surface. He immediately began sketching a design that only recently came fully into its own. The result is biomimicry at its finest, where nature’s age-old ingenuity gives shape to human solutions. The name “Anamon” is derived from the Greek An, meaning “against,” and the Egyptian sun god Amon. It is thus both a tribute to the sea creature and a nod to the parasol’s sun-shielding function.
