This autumn, &Tradition launches Japanese designer Teruhiro Yanagihara’s Numbra. The lighting collection, available both as a pendant and a portable lamp, plays with Yanagihara’s fascination with the lines that subtly shape our architecture and outline the biggest and smallest parts of our lives. Numbra turns something as seemingly simple as a straight line into an object that defines the space and, with it, the atmosphere it evokes, making it far more influential than it seems. Inspired by Junichiro Tanizaki’s seminal essay In Praise of Shadows, Numbra explores the gentleness with which darkness and light meet, and the feeling this encounter evokes.
