VOCLA is a new platform for design experimentation and social gatheringactive during Milan Design Week. Founded by Alcova, it is a night-time only experience that combines a curated design exhibition with a place for encounter. VOCLA is an exhibition centred around a custom-designed lounge bar, designed by Henge, and popup dining experience by Yapa, and features recent works by emerging and established designers ranging from research-based installations to experimentations in craft and collectible design, presented thanks to Henge’s support.
Drawing on Alcova’s tradition of making some of Milan’s foremost sites of architectural heritage accessible to the public, VOCLA’s inaugural setting will be the exchange of the former slaughterhouse of Viale Molise, part of a cluster of listed Liberty buildings adjacent to the site previously activated by Alcova in 2023, as well as the adjacent Pavilion 12 building.
VOCLA marks Alcova’s return to the city of Milan and its ongoing interest in experimenting with new formats of exhibition-making. As a nighttime counterpart to Alcova’s established daytime programming, this new project recognises the importance of the Design Week not just to view products and works but also for the human dimension of design – social interaction and the creation of new creative networks.
